Emergency Room Recruiting Centre was presented at this year's Scotiabank Nuit Blanche at the University of Toronto Art Centre on Sept. 29, 2007.
Danish-French artist Thierry Geoffroy/le Colonel is the Blackwood Gallery's first artist-in-residence in many years. His exhibition Awareness Muscle involves new projects realized on UTM campus and highlights a number of his recent art projects, including his ongoing Emergency Room (most recently at Nuit Blanche in Toronto).
Thierry Geoffroy is a Copenhagen based artist who has exhibited in Norway, Holland, Germany, Scotland, Canada, the United States, and Egypt. In 2003, he was awarded a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. He has brought his "Emergency Room" format to PS1, MOMA, institutions in Athens, Berlin, Paris, and now Toronto, at the University of Toronto Art Centre. Geoffroy writes:
This format is for professional artists to express about Emergencies. Now before it is too late. Artists are thermometers and we must know what they think about today today. Here they can point at dysfunctions in real time. In Emergency Room the exhibition changes daily. For Emergency Room a special room is built. The Emergency Room artists come when they are burning to express about emergencies. Emergency Room's goal is to be permanent and exist in every capital to be a watch dog.
